Hope for Mushu!
Meet Mushu, a Gypsy Cobb gelding born three years ago at the ranch to a frightened and severely abused Clydesdale mare. Mushu with his always friendly and playful attitude, quickly became a ranch favorite. Not only was he Gracie’s son, but he was born with a personality that was just too hard to resist!

This past winter Mushu developed a severe infection in one of his hind feet. Antibacterial and antifungal regimens were quickly put into place but without success. Daily soak bags and foot wraps along with specialty medications were added to Mushu’s treatment. Still no improvement. Numerous veterinarians and farriers tried without success to treat the infected foot but none had seen such a case as this and the disease continued to spread upward.
At our wit’s end, photos and treatment logs were sent to specialists around the country…
The Diagnosis – Canker (a rare and invasive condition, practically unheard of in the United States, let alone on the West Coast)
The Prognosis – treatable but only with a huge investment of time and money. Our decision – pray lots and seek wisdom. How could we give up on this inspiring young horse who was touching so many lives, and yet how could we ever find the resources necessary for his survival?
Immediately friends of the ranch began to rally around this amazing cause – to save Mushu. The decision was made to push forward. As a place that teaches and preaches daily the ideas of hope and perseverance in the face of adversity, how could we at the ranch do anything other that give it our very best shot!
The surgeries, prosthetics and aftercare necessary to save the life of this incredible young miracle horse will cost nearly $20,000. Please join us in our efforts so that Mushu can be an example and an inspiration to many and continue to generate hope for those who are struggling to overcome nearly impossible odds of their own.
